Quick Answer: A scan-fit canopy bolts onto your bed rails with clamps — no drilling in most cases — in under an hour for two people. The sequence that prevents leaks and rattles: clean and dry the rails, set the canopy square, clamp from the middle out, then water-test before loading gear.
Before the crate arrives
- Measure your bed against the quoted spec — length, rail width and any bed liner lips. A two-minute check beats a return shipment. Our four-step measuring guide shows exactly where to measure.
- Clear a flat work area next to the truck; the crate is large for one-piece shells.
- Unpack carefully — photograph the crate before opening, in case of shipping damage (it feeds your 7-day inspection window).
Fitting the canopy
- Clean the bed rails. Dirt under the clamps is the number one cause of shifted canopies and rubbed paint.
- Dry-fit square. Set the canopy on the rails and check equal overhang front and rear, and level across the cab.
- Clamp from the middle out, alternating sides. Don't fully torque the first clamp until all clamps are seated — snug first, then final pass in the same middle-out order.
- Check the seals. Gaps show up as light leaks at the rail; adjust the canopy position, not the seal, where possible.
- Water-test before loading. Hose the seams and check inside. Do this once, before your gear is in the bed — it takes ten minutes.
If the canopy arrives in two packages
Separate-panel builds ship the roof and walls apart to save freight. The panels bolt together on site before mounting. Take the seam seriously: follow the supplied joint sequence, seal as instructed, and include the seams in your water test. One-piece shells skip this step entirely — one reason we recommend them where freight allows.
After installation
- First 100 km: re-check clamp tightness — bedding in is normal.
- Every few months: glance at clamp torque and seal condition, especially after off-road use.
- Struts and locks: hydraulic struts and anti-theft locks are standard hardware; if either feels wrong in year two, contact us — warranty terms are in your quote.
