Quick Answer: You have four practical options. EXW: we hand the canopy to your freight forwarder at our factory. FOB: we deliver it onto the ship at the Chinese port. DAP: we freight it to your address, duties unpaid. DDP: we freight it to your door with duties paid and customs handled by us — available to most countries except Brazil, Mexico, Israel, Iraq, Iran, India and Indonesia. One canopy ships as one crated unit; your HS code is 8708295900.
A pickup canopy is a bulky, single-unit shipment — too big for parcel networks, too awkward for air freight, perfect for sea freight as one crated unit. The logistics are simpler than they look. The confusion is never the shipping; it's the four trade terms, which decide who pays for what and who carries the risk at each step.
Most guides explain Incoterms with a diagram and stop there. What a first-time buyer actually needs is one question answered: "on the worst day, who loses the money?" Below, each term comes with that answer, plus one worked example you can reprice with your own freight quotes.
The four terms, in the order of how much we handle
| Term | We handle | You handle | Risk passes to you when | Choose it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EXW | Factory gate pickup | Everything: export docs, freight, insurance, customs | The moment it leaves our dock | You have your own forwarder in China |
| FOB | Export customs + loading onto the ship | Ocean freight, insurance, import customs, delivery | The goods cross the ship's rail at the Chinese port | You have a forwarder at destination |
| DAP | Everything to your door, duties unpaid | Import customs clearance + duties | Delivery at your address | You want one throat to choke, and your own customs broker |
| DDP | Everything, including duties and customs | Nothing until it arrives at your door | On your doorstep (we carry the risk) | First import, or you simply don't want the paperwork |
DDP door-to-door is available to most countries and regions, with seven exceptions we quote EXW only — your forwarder collects at our Zhongshan factory: Brazil, Mexico, Israel, Iraq, Iran, India and Indonesia. for these 7 countries we quote EXW only — your forwarder picks up at our Zhongshan factory
Note what isn't on the list: we don't quote CIF. Under CIF the seller insures only to the destination port and the buyer still owns the customs risk — buyers who ask for CIF almost always actually want DAP or DDP.
One worked example (reprice it with your own numbers)
The numbers below are real quotes we have run for US-bound orders (October 2026). Treat them as ballparks — freight moves weekly.
| Cost line | FOB (you freight) | DDP (we deliver) |
|---|---|---|
| Canopy, factory price | From US$538 | From US$538 |
| Export + Chinese port | included | included |
| Ocean freight | ≈ US$17,000 per 20ft container — about US$958 per canopy if you fill the container (our 20HQ loads 25 units) | included |
| Marine insurance | your forwarder arranges it — usually a small percentage of cargo value | included |
| Import customs + duties (HS 8708295900) | set by your country's tariff schedule — your broker confirms the rate before you commit | included |
| Final delivery to your address | quoted by your forwarder or a local trucker from the destination port | included |
| Landed total | ≈ US$1,500 before duties and local delivery | From US$538 + freight |
The difference between the two columns is rarely the freight itself — it's who stops work when something goes wrong. On FOB, that's you; on DDP, that's us, because we clear customs as the responsible party [fact-ledger: DDP 清关由卖家负责].
Packing and inspection
Single canopies ship strapped in wooden crates with corner protection — the packing photos in this guide are real shipments — and bulk runs also go out in reinforced export cartons, the ones you see being loaded into our containers in the loading footage. A 20HQ container loads 25 units. Before you sign for delivery:
- Photograph every face of the crate while it's still on the truck.
- Open with the driver present if possible; note any damage on the delivery document before signing.
- Report damage within 7 days of signing [fact-ledger: 验货异常 7 天承诺] — photos of the packaging, the shell, and the delivery note are your claim evidence.
Lead time and ordering
Production runs 20–25 days — every canopy is made to order — and overall lead time is 15–25 working days; add ocean transit on top. Ordering is one email: your truck model, bed dimensions (we cross-check against 3D scan data), trade term, and destination postcode.
FAQ_SPLIT## Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order just one canopy?
Yes — sample orders start from one unit, shipped as its own crated unit with no container sharing required. If your forwarder consolidates, we can hold the crate until your next shipment is ready.
What HS code do canopies ship under?
8708295900 for our range. Confirm with your broker against your country's tariff schedule, since the last digits vary by market — the code decides your duty rate.
What happens if the packaging arrives damaged?
Photograph everything before unpacking, note it on the delivery receipt, and contact us within the 7-day window. DDP shipments are our customs responsibility end-to-end; FOB shipments route through your forwarder's insurance, which is why marine insurance matters on that column.
Do you handle the customs paperwork on DDP?
Yes — clearance is our job on DDP, not yours. You receive the delivery; we handle the broker, the duties, and the documentation.
